Hajec passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House with his daughter, Bethany and wife, Judy, at his side after a courageous 20 year battle with Kennedy’s Disease.  Don was born in Webster, MA to Wojciech and Katherine Hajec. He was educated in the Webster school system, Salisbury Prep. School, Princeton, and UMass-Amherst. During his high school and prep school years he stood out as an athlete in baseball, basketball and football. He went on to use his Mechanical Engineering and Operations Research background to work for several companies as a Management Consultant. During that time he was a member of A.P.I.C.S. Having an outstanding tenor voice, Don sang in the choir and was the cantor for several years at St. Robert Bellarmine. Don was a problem solver and enjoyed working at puzzles and challenges both for fun and some that occurred in daily life.  Because of his illness, he invented ways and adapted tools so that he could move through, and live in, his tri-level home. He utilized these until the end. He both adored and was adored by his daughter, Bethany and enjoyed many a summer with the extended family in South Orleans, Cape Cod.

He leaves his wife, Judy, of 45 years, his daughter, Bethany,  his brother, Richard Hajec, and his wife, Lucy, of Pawley’s Island, SC, his sister-in-law, Janice, and her husband, Jim Price of So. Orleans, MA, his brother-in-law, Robert and his wife, Micca Gray, of Sebastapol, CA and many nieces and nephews.
